• Forty per cent of the participants wanted more counseling and support to help them deal with the emotional shock and feelings of vulnerability, betrayal and rage about being terminated.
  
  
• The outplacement representatives in this study were business professionals, not counseling professionals, who did not deal effectively with the emotional issues that were slowing down the job-recovery process.
